PerformanceMLS band consists of two parts, Pep Band and Concert Band. Although there are two divisions, the group is the same. MLS band is for any person who already has had lessons with their instrument or has already participated in a band or ensemble. Pep band plays for varsity sports contests when possible. Concert Band plays for Christmas and Commencement Concerts plus a Spring Concert that is for band only. Pep Band is a lot of fun, playing pop selections to excite the crowds for the game. Concert Music is more challenging, allowing the player to become a more technical and expressive musician. The Concert Choir consists of Juniors and Seniors only. Membership is by audition. The choir sings at school concerts, for chapel as assigned, and twice monthly from October through May in WELS congregations for Sunday worship services. In the spring of odd years they go on a major tour during Easter vacation; in even years, a weekend mini-tour is arranged. CSP is a group of individuals who are interested in the theater arts. Members have opportunities to experience live theater. This is through outings to different venues during the year. Members have the opportunity to participate in numerous capacities during the major production in the spring of the year. Acting, singing, stage painting, audio, make-up, hair, stage crew are just a few of the possibilities that a student can try during a major production. Being a member means that a student is expected to participate in outings, workshops and the major production. Hardin Street Harmony is an extracurricular, auditioned group. The group’s main purpose is to prepare secular music for presentation. Currently they attend the annual Choral Festival of WELS high schools (when possible), take a short tour for recruitment purposes, and perform as requested for church social functions. To arrange a performance by this show group, please contact Len Proeber (lap@mlsem.org). The Michigan Lutheran Seminary Pom Pon Squad has two seasons a year – football and basketball. Before each season tryouts are held and a squad of 6 to 12 girls are chosen to perform at every home game. Being a member of the MLS Pom Pon Squad takes determination and creativity! The squad is expected to produce a different dance routine for each game by putting together a mix of dance and pom moves. The MLS Pom Pon Squad has one major responsibility – to boost school spirit and get Cardinal fans on their feet! In the words of the 2009 Fall Poms Squad –“It’s a lot of hard work, but when you’re out dancing on the field and hear the crowd cheering for you – it was all worth it!” |
