MLS Family in Need

Dear Members of the Seminary Family,

Just recently the Steve and Diane Pitt (both MLS ’73) family (Kristen [’01]), Bill [’02], and Abby [’04]), suffered a devastating loss as their home was destroyed by fire.  Not only were personal possessions lost, but they lost their dogs in the blaze.  Fortunately, the family was not home at the time.

This tragedy is coupled with the fact that two years ago Steve was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).  As many of you know, ALS attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord and affects a person’s ability to move, speak, eat, and breathe.  Steve is now wheelchair bound and in need of advanced care.  Obviously, much of the equipment needed for his care was destroyed in the fire.  Also, the day after the fire Diane suffered a stress-induced heart attack.  We are happy to report that she is recovering well, but she will need much rest in the coming weeks.

To help alleviate the strain on the Pitt family and to show our Christian love and support to them, the MLS faculty has decided to set up a special way for all members of the Seminary Family to help in this time of need.  We will be collecting gift cards for the Pitts.  Please bring either VISA or Mastercard gift cards, or cards for major store chains or restaurant chains to our home basketball games this week and next (January 26-27 and 30-31), the home wresting invitational (January 28), and the LES grade school tournaments (February 3-4 and 10-11).  At those times you may drop off your donation at the Cardinal Corner concession stand.  Any other times you may drop off your gift card at the MLS administration office, or send your card to MLS, c/o Prof. Karl Schmugge, 2777 Hardin St., Saginaw, MI 48602.

“Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers” (Ga 6:10).
