First Ever International Student Camp Is History
Nine new international students took part in the first ever "camp" last week. Those nine students are: Rachel Klaerner, Lydia Mueller, Jeremia Doehler and Toni Henneberg from Germany; Timofyi Tsertii from Ukraine; Jason Li from China (by way of Huron Valley Lutheran); and Koreans Jamie Partk, Zoe Moon and James Lee. The camp was set up to help them make a smooth transition to life as MLS students. Each day centered on Bible study, some ESL work, becoming familiar with the school plant and operations, and testing to determine where they may best fit into the curriculum. In the evening there were activities such as a movie, bowling, a trip to a rodeo, and some shopping. The group also played a few games during the day to break up the routine.
These nine students did a good job and are well on their way to a successful year(s) at MLS! They became rather tired by the end of camp, much like the football, volleyball and cross country team members. But the reason might be different: they spent hours upon hours thinking and speaking in a language other than their native tongue! You try doing that for a week!!
Frau Kohler and Professor Kock conducted the camp and also had fun.
